Dancing Mummy

Welcome, Benjamin!

09/07/2018 - Jodie C

Our new son Benjamin is now 2 weeks and 2 days old. Big sister is vigilant in telling us when baby is crying (even when we are standing right next to him), Daddy is taking good care of the household, and Mummy is happy to be getting up to 4 hours of sleep each night (an improvement from the first 2 weeks of only 3 hours a night).

Thankfully, I had a much smoother labour experience this time compared to my first delivery. With my first, preeclampsia developed into HELLP syndrome and I spent 6 days in hospital. So it was quite a surprise this time to find myself going home just 24 hours after delivery. Check out the pic below that Brad put together to show me the difference between the 2 labours through his eyes.

And now I start to consider the journey back to dance. I think it should begin with a visit to the amazing Jaquie at PhysioNorth. Then I would love to try Kangatraining as a gentle reintroduction to exercise, with the lovable bonus of babywearing Ben during classes.

Next blog post, I’ll share some pics and measurements as a starting point, to help keep me accountable and motivated to be the healthiest I can be for my family. I hope you’ll join me on this journey!

Belly Popping & Blogging

13/06/2018 - Jodie C

Dancing MummyWell, here I am, exploring the world of blogging with what I hope will be an interesting journey to share with other mums. My journey? I'm the mother of a gorgeous 2-year-old, pregnant with my second child who is due to arrive in the next two weeks, and I'm already thinking about how I'm going to return to dance and fitness as an instructor and performer.

So I'm starting this blog to be accountable for my goals. My return to dance after my first pregnancy took longer than I expected, held back by postpartum thyroiditis and a lack of commitment on my part to the necessary physio treatment that all new mums inevitably must face (*ahem* pelvic floor *ahem*).

Maybe I'll have some interesting mum-ecdotes to share along the way, and you'll get an honest look at my fitness journey from the first useless push up attempt to... well, who knows where it leads! I hope you enjoy the journey with me. :)

Happy dancing,
